Basic
requirements for a F-6 visa
If you want
to get a F-6 marriage visa, there are some basic requirements that the
Immigration Office will ask for.
The first is
the income requirement. Your Korean spouse must be able to show that he/she
makes enough income to support your family. The amount of required income
changes every year. The income must be proven with documents issued by the tax
office, so even if your Korean spouse has income, but does not pay taxes on
that money, you will not be able to satisfy the requirement. (One exception to
this is if you or your Korean spouse is pregnant.)
The second is
the housing requirement. Your Korean spouse must have a place where your family
can live together.
The third is
the communication requirement. You and your Korean spouse must be able to
demonstrate that you can communicate with each other.
These are the
three main requirements, and there are other things that the Immigration will
ask for, such as proof that you do not have a criminal history back in your
country.
There are
many documents to prepare, and lengthy forms to fill out, which may be daunting
to people who are illegal, or have a G-1 visa. Some administrative agents will
ask for exorbitant amounts of money for a F-6 visa for G-1 holders or illegal
immigrants.
What I can
tell you from my years of experience helping international couples is that the
process is not really all that difficult. In most cases, you don’t even need a
lawyer or an administrative agent to file the case on your behalf. All you and
your Korean spouse needs is a little help, and I’d be glad to provide you with
that assistance.
